Be a SMO Apprentice!
The Apprentice Program at Science Museum Oklahoma is a volunteer opportunity for students entering seventh grade through senior year of high school. Participants experience behind-the-scenes workings of a science museum while increasing science literacy, confidence and honing job skills.
SMO's Apprentice Program helps students develop the soft skills they will need to succeed in the workplace, like problem-solving, leadership, working in teams and good communication in a fun, professional science museum environment.

Throughout the summer, selected Apprentices may assist in facilitation and activities including day-to-day operation of exhibits, educational camp activities, production of stage performances and educational programming.
At the conclusion of the summer program, SMO Teen Apprentices may have the option to continue volunteering at the museum throughout the school year. The school year program begins on Aug. 22, 2020.
What former SMO Apprentices say:
“I was drawn to the Apprentice Program because I loved the science museum and thought it would just be a fun thing to do over the summer. I would maybe have some stories to tell once school started again. I had no idea it would turn out to be one of the greatest experiences of my life. Apprenticing improved my social skills and I became more comfortable interacting with people. I learned the responsibilities of having a real job years before the other kids at school, which later helped me when I was looking for work. The best part of my experience as an Apprentice were the friends I made along the way.”
"The Apprentice Program at Science Museum Oklahoma was a great experience! I learned so much both from my fellow apprentices and the students I worked with each day. The program also laid a great foundation for professional growth at the museum: I am now an Overnight Program Educator, where I use the teaching skills I learned to show new students how awesome science is!"
