Science Museum Oklahoma Hosts Harry Potter Science Overnight, Nov. 11

October 31, 2016

Science Museum Oklahoma will host a Science Overnight inspired by the magical world of Harry Potter on Friday, Nov. 11. Developed by SMO’s science educators, the program will explore the science of Harry Potter just in time for the opening of the Potter-inspired film “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.”

“Science and technology can often seem almost like magic — in fact, some of today’s technology might have seemed like magic to us 10, 20 or 30 years ago,” said Clint Stone, director of education and training at SMO. “This Science Overnight gives us the chance to explore the splendor and wonder of science as it relates to the world of Harry Potter.”

Guests will have the opportunity to attend Care of Magical Creatures and potions classes, cast Harry Potter-like “spells” with computer coding, work on wand skills, play Quidditch and more.

The event will also include access to all of the museum’s regular exhibits, a planetarium and Science Live show, and a light breakfast on Saturday morning.

The Harry Potter Science Overnight is from 7 p.m., Friday, Nov. 11, to 7:30 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 12. Check-in begins at 6 p.m.

The cost is $35 per participant for members, $45 per participant for nonmembers and $25 for each non-participating adult. Non-participating attendees are those who chaperone groups but do not take part in any of the activities. One adult is required for every six children in attendance.
